So here it is. Here is the mess in the kitchen that turned out to be a wonderful dessert.
Pie Mixture....
3/4 cups sugar
1/8 cup flour
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 Tablespoons butter
6 cups thinly sliced apples (I used 3 cups organic red apples and 3 cups organic green apples. You can do all red or all green. Whatever your heart desires.)
Brown-Sugar Topping...
1/8 cup flour
1/8 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon butter
1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
1 pinch of cloves
1 prepared pie crust
Heat the oven to 425F.
Slice the apples into small, thin pieces.
Mix all dry ingredients for the pie mixture well. Stir apples and dry ingredients together until all apples are well coated with the mixture. Turn out the coated apples into an ungreased pie baking dish.
Mix all of the brown-sugar topping ingredients together until crumbly, and sprinkle topping over the pie mixture. Dot top of mixture with 1 1/2 Tablespoons butter.
Roll out the pie crust and slice into 1" wide pieces. Weave the strips together to form a crisscross crust and place on top of the filling.
Bake at 425 for about 60 minutes, until the crust is golden and filling is bubbling. Let the pie cool for about half an hour and I recommend enjoying your slice with a side of vanilla ice cream.
Enjoy sweet friends!
